How to Use Your
Oil Burner to Elevate
Your Home?

At Maison de Senteurs, we believe that a home fragrance can transform a simple room into a true sensory journey. And if there’s one secret we love to share, it’s the art of mastering your oil burner.
Used for generations around the Mediterranean, this simple yet elegant object is the perfect companion for gently and warmly scenting your home. Here are our insider tips for an unforgettable olfactory experience, inspired by tradition.
The Secrets to a Perfect Oil Burner Experience
1. Respect the Right Proportions
For a perfect balance, we recommend pouring 1 capful of fragrance concentrate to 3 to 4 capfuls of water into the bowl of your burner. This dilution allows for a pleasant diffusion neither too strong nor too light ideal for perfuming your space without being overpowering.
2. Prefer Hot Water
A little perfumer’s trick: use hot water instead of cold.
Heat helps the scented oils evaporate more quickly, creating a more intense and immediate diffusion. Perfect for perfuming your living room, bedroom, or even bathroom in just a few minutes.
3. Match Each Fragrance to the Right Room
Every scent tells a story... Here are a few ideas to match the right fragrance with the right space:
- Orange blossom: in the bedroom for a soft, soothing and warm atmosphere.
- Jasmine: in the living room, reminiscent of Mediterranean summer nights.
- Rose:in the entryway or bathroom, for a fresh, floral and elegant touch.

FAQ
YOUR MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long does a fragrance concentrate last?
A 10ml bottle gives around 10 uses, depending on the amount used. With regular use, one bottle can scent your home for several weeks.
How do I use an oil burner?
Pour 3 to 4 capfuls of hot water into the top dish, then add 1 capful of our fragrance concentrate. Place a tea light candle underneath. As the water heats up, the fragrance gently diffuses into your space. (As we said previously, preferably use hot water for instant diffusion).
What’s the difference between a fragrance concentrate and a room spray?
A concentrate is more intense and designed for use with a burner. A room spray is ready to use just spray it directly into the room for an instant effect.
What exactly is an oil burner?
Many people aren’t familiar with the term.
An oil burner is a small ceramic object where you pour hot water and a few drops of fragrance concentrate. A tea light candle heats the base, diffusing the scent throughout the room. It’s a warm, handcrafted alternative to electric diffusers.

Oil Burner vs Diffuser: What’s the Difference?
A reed or electric diffuser works continuously, often without heat.
A burner gently heats a mix of water and concentrates with a candle, creating a stronger and more immediate scent. Ideal for cozy moments, wellness rituals, or warmly welcoming guests.
Is it the same as a scented candle?
Not quite. A scented candle has perfume already mixed into its wax.
With an oil burner, you heat a liquid fragrance, so you can easily switch scents whenever you like.
Can it replace incense?
Yes and no. Incense burns dry and produces smoke. The burner offers a gentle, smokeless diffusion, which is often better tolerated by people with allergies or sensitivities.
Can I use essential oils in an oil burner?
Yes, but with caution. Our concentrates are specially formulated for home ambiance. Pure essential oils can sometimes be too strong or unsuitable for direct heat.
Why choose Maison de Senteurs burners?
Because our creations are artisan-made, authentic, and inspired by Mediterranean scents: orange blossom, jasmine, rose, amber...
In just a few drops, your home becomes a true olfactory journey.
